A conversation between members of the National Carbon Monoxide Awareness Association (NCOAA) and The Lauren Project has deepened recently as their common purpose of increasing carbon monoxide safety around the country has found new ways to expand. NCOAA President Charon McNabb from Michigan and LP Chief Creative Officer from Colorado met in person this summer to discuss additional ways we could work together toward our common goal. The NCOAA has recently commissioned a research professional to review research on the effects of carbon monoxide exposure at both extreme and chronic low levels. The goal is to produce a summary of data that may be used in the near future to review manufacturer’s standards when it comes to C.O. alarms. The Lauren Project provided the NCOAA with a $5000 grant to help fund the research project. Other avenues for increasing C.O. safety will also be explored as the 2 organizations work to promote national safety standards that need updating.
An additional project also resulted from the partnership. The Holly, Michigan Fire Department was planning a canvassing event to distribute & install smoke alarms in their local community. The Lauren Project sent 50 C.O. alarms so they could also install those. The canvassing took place on September 22 and was very successful with 140 smoke alarms and 40 C.O. alarms installed. We love being able to help wherever we are needed! National Carbon Monoxide Awareness Association (Click Here)

2020 continues to keep us on our toes. Health, economics, families, and institutions have been shaken, and our paradigms forced to shift. Although this has been challenging, The Lauren Project remains steadfast in our mission and commitment to bettering the world. Helping to make this happen and furthering our efforts behind the scenes, we are excited to introduce this year’s Board Executive Officers:
Join us at our annual Silent Auction for an evening of good food and good company and help us make the world a more just place one carbon monoxide detector and service grant at a time!
Sunday, September 29th, 5:30-8:00pm at the Island at Pelican Lakes in Windsor, CO. Weld Recovers awarded the Lauren Project a grant for $5000 to cover the cost to purchase and install C.O. alarms for homes that were damaged by the floods in Northern Colorado in 2013. In a joint effort with the American Red Cross, this project was completed in October of 2015.
The Community Foundation Serving Greeley and Weld County awarded The Lauren Project a Collaboration Grant for $2000 to purchase C.O. detectors for Project Connect on September 28th, 2012. Project Connect is a community services event reaching out to the economically disadvantaged in Weld County. We will be working with the Greeley Fire Department on this project. The Weld County Chapter of Thrivent Financial awarded The Lauren Project a grant for $1000 to purchase C.O. detectors for Project Connect. Thrivent Financial has supported numerous projects sponsored by The Lauren Project and to date has provided the largest amount of corporate support for our efforts. Loveland Fire Department has just announced that they received a FEMA grant for $40,000 to purchase carbon monoxide detectors and smoke detectors. The grant application was based on a collaborative effort with The Lauren Project modeled after our canvassing efforts with the Windsor/Severance Fire Department. We will work with them to design a similar effort in Loveland. It is through the support of generous volunteers that we are able to keep our organization up and running. We appreciate the love and support that our volunteers have shown over the past few years, allowing our organization to grow and thrive.
